Background:
Lakota has been a social services counselor since the 70’s, and Executive Director of county- wide social service agencies in two different states, including receiving community leadership awards. She has been a healer in that way, and a hands-on healer since the 80’s. Lakota then began her work as a psychic and has been doing readings for ten years, full-time, non-stop.
In Her Words:
When people ask me when I became a psychic or healer, I never know which answer to give them, because all are true. One answer is many lifetimes ago. Another answer is when I was a young girl. Things would happen, and I would KNOW things, but I had no control over it----it just happened or it did not happen. I couldn’t find the On/Off switch. I had no control over whether it happened or not.
The next answer is, in the 70’s. I met a teacher, and began studying under her. But it did not take me too long to back away from it, because it just did not feel right to me. I realized many years later, that the teacher and the information and the style being presented to me lacked Spirituality, and that is why it was not the correct path for me.
So, the last answer is, in the 1980’s, when I moved to a different state, where I knew no one, and was taking time off from working. So I immersed myself in learning Spiritual Metaphysics. I virtually spent three years of fulltime studying, learning, and growing. Of course, that is a never-ending process!
In the ‘90’s, I was initiated as a Shaman, by an elder who was a member of both the Pamunkey and Powhatan Indian nations. She initiated me not because of what she had taught me, but she said because of what I already knew, and was doing to help The People.
I have also worked with two full-blood Lakota Medicine Men. One of them gifted me with a sacred item to use during my Hanblecia, or Vision Quest. He put seven of us “on the hill” that time, but chose to put me in the same spot where he always does his crying for a vision. He has told me that he knows he cannot bring the Sacred Eagle into his sweat lodge, but that every time I am in his lodge, the Eagle comes in, with me. He has also had the Buffalo Nation wake him from sleep to give a message to me. One time, after we had left the Wounded Knee Burial Grounds, I shared with him a conversation I had had while there, with a group of spirits from that massacre. He asked one question, and then did not mention another word about it, on the long ride home. Several days later, he told me he had never heard someone even suggest that concept before, but that he knew as soon as I told him, that it was correct. This man taught me how to conduct sweat lodges, and had me help him do Sacred Ceremonies to help The People.
Another Lakota Medicine Man tied the Feather and Medicine Wheel into my hair during a public PowWow, doing the Hunka ceremony, which is the making of relatives ceremony. He adopted me as his daughter, and gave me my Lakota spiritual name, which had been given to him by his spirit guide, during his sweat lodge. This man gave me the other Sacred item to use for prayer and healing, as well as a ceremonial skirt to use during my own ceremonies, so that I could further help The People.
